Evile/Trigger the Bloodshed/Mutant/River Freshney
metaldazza / April 24, 2009, 6:34 p.m.
Every so often a gig is greater then the sum of it's bands. This gig was tinged with some sadness as Warpath had pulled out and laced with curiosity as Trigger the Bloodshed had stepped in to replace them. How would a Death metal band fare? To further heighten expectations Mutant had finally, after many years, released their EP and Rad Rik was giving away his 'London thrash scene' DVD entitled 'Capital Punishment' FREE!.
River Freshney were first up. Undaunted by a near full Underworld they proceeded to abuse every member of the audience with their usual humorous angle on the queer audience and avoiding rape by shouting "Surprise!". Freshney tread a fine line and luckily for them the audience was on the same side of the line and their set went down well.
With a near capacity crowd Mutant stepped out on to the stage a reinvigorated band. Touring with Evile has obviously done them the world of good. No more sloppy delivery, Mutant are now a well tuned, confident outfit. Delivering song after song that have become classics in the London Thrash scene. Their EP will open many doors for them. The world needs to enter the Laserdrome!
The crowd had thinned a little for Trigger the Bloodshed. This didn't stop them ramming their brand of Death metal in the face of everyone. They are a tight and aggressive outfit. With horns aloft the thrash crowd gave it's blessing to TTB
Without much of a pause Evile were up and the crowded Underworld was hurtled back in time to the dawn of thrash. Evile are predictable: They always play at the top of their game, they always generate a pit, they never disappoint. I've watched Evile play London for two years and each time the pit gets bigger, louder and more triangular (Ol will get that). It seems that nothing can stop this band.
London did itself proud last night. The crowd made an excellent gig in to one of the most memorable nights on the tour I am sure. Everyone left the Underworld in no doubt that the UK Thrash scene is healthy and growing in to a force to be reckoned with.
I took twelve videos of the night, you can view them here

Ten Masked Men/Anchor head/Necrocest/Ligature
metaldazza / April 19, 2009, 11:24 p.m.
I grabbed some videos from the gig last night. It wasn't the best gig I'd been to for a number of reasons. Firstly it was really dark on stage. The Purple Turtle normally has excellent lighting... not last night. Secondly Anchor head seemed to have technical problems and in general gave a lacklustre performance. On the bright side though Necrocest gave a very strong performance.
