Satyricon/The Bezerker/Zonaria @ ULU

metaldazza Thu 27 Nov 2008 13:42 (one month ago)

This was my first gig at ULU for about 15 years and it's changed quite a lot. The upstairs space is really good and I would guess the capacity is about 800-1000. Satyricon filled this space EASILY. The gig was rammed.

As terrybezer said on the Metal Hammer Blog there was a whiff of Sisters of Mercy about Satyricon: Satyr all in black, thin as a stick and surrounded by smoke and white back lights

I'd just like to mention that Frosts drum kit is quite frankly EPIC... as was his drumming. If I could change one thing it would have been to make Frost's drums a little louder in the mix (apart from the blast beats!). The sound was in general excellent though.

This was one of the few 'big ticket' gigs that I have been to and come away feeling enriched. I may have to go and see them at Bloodstock this year.

Of course there are some pics here. If anyone else has pics the UPLOAD EM.

Soilwork/One-way Mirror/Ananta @ Islington Academy

metaldazza Fri 21 Nov 2008 16:18 (two months ago)

Soilwork played the Islington academy last night. It was a good gig. All the bands were very similar sounding to me which wasn't a bad thing. Top quality.

Pictures of the event are here
I tried to record Soilwork near the end of the set and it was all going well but the battery on my phone ran out!

Inner Rage, Savage Messiah, Chewin Druids, Doctor Death @ The Fly

metaldazza Mon 03 Nov 2008 13:58 (two months ago)

twas a good gig at a new venue for me. It's a small place with a capacity of about 50.

Doctor Death opened the night with their last gig of the year before they step back to write/record an album. While they are getting better each time I see them it would be good if there was some new material to mix things up a little.

Chewin Druids, who actually played last as they arrived late from up north only got to play a few songs but they seemed fairly decent. It was nice of them to bother playing in the 15 minute post Inner Rage slot they were given.

Savage Messiah are basically really fucking good. If you like good, honest thrash, these boys are for you.

Inner Rage.... well there really isn't a lot to say. You need to see Inner Rage to really get what they do. It seems like solid extreme death metal but for me at least their live performance leaves me speechless. They are a band that you should go out of your way to see live.
